Day One
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast at The Cottage Cafe. Aptly named, eating in this cafe is as cozy as eating at home. Check out the pastries! Then, see what tales the National Historic Trails Interpretive Center has to share. Discover the stories behind the Oregon, Mormon, California and Pony Express Trails, and how it all blends in with Casper's unique history. For more interactive Casper history, head downtown to the Chamber of Commerce and grab a Historic Casper, Wyoming Self-Guided Tour Brochure. Pick a route, and take a few hours to learn about our fair city at your own pace.
In the mood for a little Mexican for lunch? Try Don Juan Mexican Restaurant. The Pozole comes highly recommended! Once you've had your fill, come into the present by visiting the Nicolaysen Art Museum & Discovery Center. Wander through the galleries and enjoy the contemporary art of the Rocky Mountain Region. Kids will enjoy the hands-on experience of the Discovery Center, and everyone will love the unique gifts available from the gift shop!
For supper, Poor Boy's Steakhouse offers great food served in a down-home atmosphere. Start with the bucket o' salad, bite into a juicy steak or breast of chicken prepared just how you like, and do your best to save room for dessert! Then see what's happening at the Casper Events Center. Experience anything from indoor football to rodeo to Broadway plays! And, if you're kid-free for the evening, the Parkway Plaza's All That Jazz hosts a variety of live music acts.
Day Two
Begin the day with fresh-baked cheesy bread at the Cheese Barrel. The food's so tasty, you'll swear by their vegetarian fare by the end of the meal. Then, Discover more of Casper's colorful past at Fort Caspar. Expand on the history of the trails as you wander through the reconstructed 1865 frontier army fort.
Karen & Jim's is the place to go for an entertaining lunch. The fun movie memorabilia and great food will please both adults and kids alike (check out the gremlin!) Then, immerse yourself in Wyoming's nature at the Werner Wildlife Museum. See what wildlife is indigenous to Wyoming, as well as displays of wildlife from North America to Africa, and places in-between. Then, travel back in time with the Tate Geological Museum. There are over 3000 fossils and mineral specimens to explore!
If you're craving Italian for supper, Bosco's Italian Restaurante will fit the bill. It's a homey little restaurant with some mighty tasty soup. After you've had your fill of ravioli and relaxation, investigate the night skies! The Casper Planetarium gives opportunity to do just that - contact them for a schedule of observing, or to see what programs and shows they're offering at the time of your visit.
